West African in heritage, Naarm (Melbourne)-based Zjoso has quickly become an essential thread weaving through the city’s musical tapestry. He is the founder of Tribqu, a platform that celebrates underground music and culture. As a DJ, radio host, and curator, he has carved out a unique role for himself. His monthly radio show on Skylab has become a cult favorite, while his dance events cultivate a space where music is not driven by a specific genre, but rather by a feeling and an exploration of sound and movement. Through Tribqu, Zjoso has energised a community of music lovers. An accomplished and versatile DJ, Zjoso explores his love for soulful music across a broad spectrum. In a relatively short time, he has asserted himself as a prominent figure on Naarm’s clubbing circuit, with a discerning taste that touches on sounds like street soul, dub, 90s house, broken beat and Detroit techno. Zjoso has built a strong international presence, touring across Europe, Southeast Asia, and New Zealand. He has played at renowned institutions such as Panorama Bar, Oval Space, Doka, Potato Head, as well as highly regarded parties and clubs including Rhythm Section, Secret Sundaze, Friendly Potential, and Beam Cube. His festival appearances span both Australia and the UK, with performances at Golden Plains Festival, Strawberry Fields, Sun Cycle, Freedom Time, Hopkins Creek, Mode, Pitch Music & Arts Festival, We Out Here and Gala. The recherché selector’s recognition is proven with invitations to play on bills alongside the likes of Ron Trent, Glenn Underground, Marcellus Pittman, DJ Spinna, Francois K, Tikiman, Shy One, Suze Ijo and CCL just to name a few. A love for dancing, a passion rooted within discovering and sharing music and an inherent motivation to bring people together through these forms lay as the foundation for Zjoso’s creative focus. A vibrant voice who is helping define the shape of Australian dance culture moving forward.
