Host

Finn Idris

Finn Idris is an Australian composer, instrumentalist, and researcher working at the intersection of contemporary classical performance, experimental electronic music, and surveillance-driven audiovisual systems. Trained at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (MMus, High Distinction), they have over a decade of professional experience spanning chamber orchestras, film and game scoring, sound design, mastering, and large-scale installation work across Australia and Europe. Their practice integrates electric violin and viola, live resynthesis, generative systems, and audience-responsive technologies, with recent performances and releases in IDM, ambient, and experimental contexts through international labels including Janushoved (DK), Steeplejack (AU), and French and Dutch imprints. Their current research explores surveillance, biometric sensing, and redistributed agency as compositional tools in live music and installation environments, with a focus on ethical tension, perceptual alterity, and participatory systems. They are commencing a PhD in Music at Monash University on a fully funded RTP scholarship, where their work combines practice-led research, custom technical systems, and public performance as primary research outputs, alongside an active performance, recording, and teaching career.
