FACILITATORS

Host

D. Tyrone

D. Tyrone (Dirk Tyrone Peterson) is a DJ, producer, and visual artist based in Naarm. Growing up in Aotearoa, Dirk’s practice developed through throwing DIY gallery shows and dance gigs, and by producing music with Hugo Jay under the DJ Kush Boogie alias. Currently, Dirk’s productions are formed through recording at Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio, taking field recordings of Victorian wildlife, and diving through archive sample CDs for loops and inspiration. As a producer, Dirk is inspired by old-school bass, breaks, garage, and turn-of-the-century techno. This inspiration shines through their recent trax on ADHD Edits, Head Rush, Love Above and their collaborative EP with Jo Christy on Confide Records. Outside of club productions, Dirk is the label boss for eco-ambient project Binaural Audio Telecommunication System, an exploration of patterns in ultrasonic frequencies produced by Victorian microbats.

Host

Jo Christy

Jo Christy is a DJ, producer and multi-instrumentalist based in Naarm. Drawing from backgrounds in jazz, punk, hardcore and dance music, Jo’s productions sit somewhere between club functionality and playful experimentation, with a focus on groove, texture and emotional impact. Working predominantly with hardware, Jo builds tracks around an ever-evolving setup of Elektron machines, analogue synths and a sample heavy process. Her workflow draws heavily from a samples taken from an extensive vinyl collection, field recordings, found sounds and interesting tones captured from everyday life, often reshaped into club-ready forms. Guitar also frequently finds its way into her productions, processed through layers of effects and used less as a traditional instrument than as a source of movement, texture and human feel. Her releases include the No Mistress EP on her Work Wife Tracks imprint, a collection of independent releases, and Sisters Split, a collaborative EP with D. Tyrone on Confide Records. Together, Jo and Dirk regularly share works-in-progress, mix feedback and production ideas, helping shape each other’s tracks long before they reach the dancefloor. Outside the studio, Jo runs the Work Wife party series and is an active contributor to Naarm’s queer and underground dance music communities. Whether producing club tracks, recording punk bands, filling in as a session musician or working on film and television scores, Jo is driven by a curiosity for how sounds can be manipulated, recontextualised and brought together to tell a story.
